Running title : Autoncmic Components of Motion Sickness
نویسندگان
چکیده
This report refers to a body of investigations performed in support of experiments aboard the Space Shuttle, and designed to counteract the symptoms of Space Adapatation Syndrome, which resemble those of motion sickness on Earth. For these supporting studies we examined the autonomic manifestations of earth-based motion sickness. Heart rate, respiration rate, finger pulse volume and basal skin resistance were measured on 127 men and women before, during and after exposure to nauseogenic rotating chair tests. Significant changes in all autonomic responses were observed across the tests (p<.05). Significant differences in autonomic responses among groups divided according to motion sickness susceptibility were also observed (p<.05). Results suggest that the examination of autonomic responses as an objective indicator of motion sickness malaise is warranted and may contribute to the overall understanding of the syndrome on Earth and in Space. DESCRIPTORS: heart rate, respiration rate, finger pulse volume, skin resistance, biofeedback, motion sickness.

Unusual presentation of motion sickness: Case report
Introduction: Motion sickness is a normal response to real. Perceived or anticipated movement. Although the prognosis is excellent it may be incapacitating for people with an occupation that requires constant movement, such as a flight attendant, pilot, astronaut, or ship crew members. The symptoms progresses from initial dizziness to vomiting. Fortunaterly most symptoms disappear once the stim...
متن کاملInvestigating the Effect of a Selected Exercise Training Course on the Motion Sickness in Pilots and Flight Crew Members of the Army of the Islamic Republic of Iran
Background and Aim: Motion sickness is a natural and temporary response to unfamiliar motor stimuli which reduces performance in complex tasks that require constant attention. The aim of this research was to study the effect of a special exercise training period on motion sickness in the pilots and flight crews of the Army of the Islamic Republic of Iran. Methods: In this study, 20 pilot studen...
متن کاملThe Effect of Long-Term Use of Motion Control Shoes on the Ground Reaction Force Components during Running in Runners with Excessive Pronated Feet
Introduction: Most of the functional disorders in the foot are created by changes in the arch of the foot. The motion control shoes are designed to control the excessive rear foot motions. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of long-term use of motion control shoe on the ground reaction force components in individuals with functional pronated feet during running. Methods: The prese...
متن کاملMotion sickness
The term motion sickness was originally introduced to provide a nosological classification for disorders elicited by exposure to unusual patterns of motion, such as sea sickness, train sickness, and swing sickness. The term came to subsume air sickness as well, and in recent years, simulator sickness, space sickness, and cybersickness (virtual environment sickness). It is now recognized that bo...
متن کاملSpatial and temporal EEG dynamics of motion sickness
This study investigates motion-sickness-related brain responses using a VR-based driving simulator on a motion platform with six degrees of freedom, which provides both visual and vestibular stimulations to induce motion sickness in a manner that is close to that in daily life. Subjects' brain dynamics associated with motion sickness were measured using a 32-channel EEG system. Their degree of ...
